1. Hi , who are you and what do you do?
Adelle Charles, Art Director & Designer
I work for the CBS & FOX Affiliate in Rochester, NY as their Art Director.
Founder of Fuel Your Creativity and the Fuel Brand Group with Partners Joshua Smibert & Joseph Morton. I am also a Partner at Fresh ID with Kristi Colvin & Graham Smith and helped design Just Tweet It with Dani McDaniel whom I met through twitter!
2. Describe a typical day at work?
I stroll in between 9-9:30 (yes I’m late!) with my Starbucks in hand and usually have a couple of meetings to start with. Then I get down to business being the Art Director.
3. What do you enjoy most about your work?
Getting a regular paycheck at my day job and as far as the rest of my work is concerned, I loved everything from the personal freedom and growth I get to meeting so many wonderful designers from around the world.

4. What do you like least about your job?
From my day job the politics and micro-managing and for the freelance stuff the business aspect of it all.
5. What is your worst enemy of creativity?
It depends on the day. I find that the weather has something to do with it sometimes. And some days my focus is just off no matter what.
6. What do you do when you start a new project and you have NO ideas?
I move on to something else or stop working entirely and do something non-work related because I know an idea will come to me eventually.
7. What inspires you the most?
Seeing other designer’s work and reading great design-related articles in magazines and on blogs.

8. Do you listen to music while working? And if “yes” what music do you listen to?
Not really. I sometimes end up listening to my dog Chino whine because I won’t let him on my lap! And if I do listen to any, it’s been Pink’s new album lately.
9. How do you deal with criticism?
I thank the person for their opinion and if it’s a client then I try to incorporate their ideas and if it’s a friend or colleague, I steal their lunch.
10. What does your workspace look like?
At home my desks are on the loft overlooking the living room. There is a slanted window right in front of me that I get a lot of natural light from. Then it’s all of my electronic toys. Oh and a tiny space heater because my house gets cold! At work it’s windowless but red, so I like the look of it.
11. Do you remember the very first web-project in which you were involved?
It was probably about 7 years ago and it was a box company but I had no clue what I was doing and it was hacked together with HTML. What was I thinking?!
12. Is there any advice you would give our readers?
Frequently check out other designer’s work and leave comments to get your name out there. You will find that we’re a friendly bunch and will return the favor.
13. What has been the most fun project to work on so far?
I would have to say my Fuel Brand network of sites including Fuel Your Creatively.
14. Imagine yourself in 15 years… what do you see yourself doing?
I want to own my own company where I act as a type of liaison when it comes to hooking clients up with my team of freelance creatives like writers, designers, illustrators, animators, etc. I would like to continue the Fuel Brand stuff and build up the network.
15. Please tell us 3 people who we should do this Interview with (Why them?).
Michelle Krasniak of inherwritemind.com- Because I think writers don’t get enough exposure when it comes to the creative stuff.
Kristi Colvin of FreshID.net- Because of her user interface and software usability skill set.
Niki Brown of nikibrown.com/designoblog because I think she’s a great designer and illustrator and she’s just a crazy funny lady.
Adelle…thank you very much for answering our questions :-)
